Tyrone native Cathal Corey has cited personal and work commitments as the reasons for his decision to step down as Sligo manager.
The Sligo County Board released a statement last Friday stating that Corey had stepped down after less than a year in charge.
The news came as a bit of a surprise as Corey had achieved his goal of retaining their NFL Division Three status while they won a Connacht SFC match against London.
However, he revealed to the Sligo Champion that regretfully he was stepping down from the position.
"Having reflected on the past season since I was appointed as the manager of Sligo senior football team last October, I wish to notify you of my resignation from the position due to personal and work commitments," said Corey.
"It is with regret that I am making this decision as I have enjoyed my time with Sligo as challenging as it was. On a positive note I am pleased that we retained our Division 3 status in a very challenging league, we won a potentially tricky away fixture against London in the championship and most importantly I feel we transitioned a now crop of young players to the senior squad.
"I would like to thank the county board, my backroom team and the players for their endeavours over the season. And in conclusion I wish Sligo senior team every success in the coming years."
