Féile 2018 last weekend had everything: sun, sea, new friendships and some terrific hurling! It will go down as a weekend to remember for the Benbulben Gaels Under 14 hurlers who took part. We were delighted to host East Cavan Gaels on Friday and Saturday, who eventually went on to lift the Shield title in Bekan on Sunday. A big thank-you to all our local host families, supporters, caterers and volunteers at Oxfield who helped make the weekend such a success. Special mention to the organising team of Damien Kerrigan, Jimmy O'Brien, Declan O'Brien and Alan Tiernan who ensured everything ran so smoothy. We wish Benbulben Gaels wing back Rían O'Callaghan a speedy recovery from his injury sustained in the Gaels opening match on Friday evening. While the results may not have gone according to plan for the host club on the field of play, the weekend as a whole will live long in the memory for the our young developing hurlers. We are very grateful to our local sponsors whose generous support helped ensure the weekend happened. 

 

Big congrats to the Rathcormac NS girls footballers who won the 8-Teacher+ Cumann na mBunscol final against Ballymote last Tuesday. A special mention too for team captain Rianne Smith, who has been selected to play in the Cumann na mBunscol half-time exhibition on All-Ireland senior football final Sunday at Croke Park (Sept 2nd). 

 

The Cumann na mBunscol exertions appeared to their toll on the DRP U14 girls footballers who were beaten by CT Gaels in the league later that evening by 6-10 to 2-9.

 

Hard luck to the girls U12 footballers who were beaten by Curry in last Saturday's Shield final, played in Tubbercurry.

 

There was a disappointing display from the senior men's footballers in Division 1 last Sunday in Coola as they lost to Shamrock Gaels in Division 1 on a final scoreline of 2-11 to 0-6. The attention now switches to the Kiernan Cup this Sunday when we welcome St Mary's to Oxfield at 1pm.

 

Our junior men's footballers fared better in Collooney on Friday, beating Owenmore Gaels in Division 4 by 6-15 to 1-6. Next up is a home game against Castleconnor on Saturday evening at 7pm.

 

There is a midweek blitz for our nursery U8 and U10 footballers this Wednesday evening (June 7th) with St John's GAA Club in Cleveragh playing fields (opposite the sports complex) at 7pm. Players are asked to assemble by 6:45pm.

 

Our boys U14 footballers travel to south Sligo this Thursday evening to play Tubbercurry/Cloonacool at 7pm.

 

The GAA's Kellogg's Cúl Camp takes place at Oxfield from July 16-20th this year. The camp is open to girls and boys aged 6-13 years. There's still time to register online for the camp by visiting gaa.ie. Or, see the club's Facebook page.
