Over to you loyal Ross supporters Have we made progress this year as we have done every year of Fergals management.? Have you confidence in the way the team is being handled? Will we be promoted next spring? What happens next?

No No No And under this current management we'll probably have a similar year next year.

I said it before and I'll say it again: the biggest disaster this year was not the way we lost against Galway (and now Tyrone) in the Championship. Because we're building a new team we needed to have got promotion from Div 3, to have serious games next year to build on. Luckily there are a couple of more serious teams now in Div 3 and those games will help. But realistically we are likely to remain in Div 3 again next year. That is not where we should be with so much young talent coming on board. We could have and should have been promoted this year and in the long run that will have been our biggest failure in 2012. Roscommon senior football really needs an experienced management team and urgently.

I usually have the opinion of giving a manager two years but not this time. Roscommon have being doing great work underage and it is hugely important to get an experienced manager to develop these players into senior players. Division 3 is going to be very competitive next year but i believe we have the players to get out of it if we have new management. Roscommon need to be tactically a lot better and need a manager to install belief in these young players.

Dont think we have made any progress..scrapped FOD's system rather than tweak an add value to it and adapted a negative system of defending which uses 1 or 2 defenders on the half forward line..have not seen a more negative way of playin in championship so far..we have quality players but need the whole package..not sure if even the players have bought into the managers view on how game should be played..it should be our expectation to be promoted..but think this was more realistic 12 months ago..

The turning point of that game was when Cregg missed that chance to go into thelead, then Tyrone scored 3 on the bounce. The penalty killed us. The questions I have are as follows; 1) Why did Finneran not start. Newton was saying during the week the 25 mins against armagh will bring him on so why not start him? 2) Why was shine still taking frees? He is so hot and cold, why did Kilbride not take a few? 3) Why do we persist with stupid short handpassing? We have 2 big forwards who can win ball, why not launch it on top of them with quick, accurate passes? 4) Why was Donie Shith not used? If we are using Compton I cannot see a reason not to use Smith.
Cathal Cregg was the only player who can hold his head high. HE was outstanding in all 3 games. I know we have the talent there but we drop our heads in adversity apart from the armagh game. Its so fustrating to see a talented group of players routed again. Am I wrong or bias when I think we have such potential?

Ur dead right, this bunch of players and the successful underage that is following have great potential, that is why we need an experienced manager. I dont understand why Finneran didnt start, Kilroy was terrible again. Shine has been inconsistent with frees for last 2 years, league and championship, how long can he live on his reputation! The only position he plays well is in full forward, not corner just full when the ball is hit high down on top of him, maybe midfield too but he cannot be played corner forward or part of a 2 man full forward line. Smith is definitely the future and should have been given more game time this year. Hopefully he will play a lot of league next year.
u are also dead right about Cathal Cregg, what a leader and inspiritional player to have.

I didn't think our backs played too badly against Tyrone. I thought that Carty, Collins, Domnican and Kilbride were good but for me the problem was the same as against armagh our half forward line was non existant. While i felt Kilroy improved, Daly is just wasted up there. We really missed O'Gara, Keenan and even O'Grady, players that could link up defence and attack.

Agree with most of the mails that we need to address the management suitation, we have anough talent to be premoted to Div 2, but i'm afraid if we stick with the current management team i don't see it happening. its not all the managements fault, the players haven't performed to the required level, but there were rumours prior to the galway game that the training was not up to the required standard.

Must say a manager is only as good as his players, Blaming Management is futile when clearly he has limited resources.

Management is everything to a team for example have a look at Donegal up north they were getting hammered every time they faced any half decent team once McGuinness came in with a system that made them difficult to beat they are now suddenly one of the All Ireland contenders. We have the players (mostly young at the moment) & with the right manager, system in place we'll be producing results like the Armagh one on regularly.

Fergal O'Donnell had Roscommon on the right road since he left they have gone backwards. The resources Roscommon have is one of the best in Connacht and they are underachieving under this current management.

Rubbish Donegal players are far better than Roscommon players, surely you can see this? Regardless of Management

Appointing a new management team would be a futile exercise.. The players are just not there. The big danger for next year is being overtaken by Leitrim!

Check over Donegal results before Jim McGuinness arrived same players playing under a different manager(that's my point) and speaking of rubbish talk.. why are you even giving opinion on our players? not so long ago you didn't even know who Cathal Cregg and Senan Kilbride was.

Good example on Donegal above. As for us and "not having the players" our panel is full with players that have won Minor AI,Connacht senior,U21,Minor, and Sigerson cup medals it's our most talented squad of player for over a decade and that's not to mention the talent coming through.
I'd like to thank Des Newton and his management team for all the time and effort they put in this year but in order for us to reach our true potential they must step aside our next year will be another wasted one.

When i started this tread i asked for the views of loyal ross supporters, people who know and love ross football. I would ask those other people and cattle and even a few mules by the sound of them to go back to their own county forum. Some very good views coming from the tread, everyone i have spoken to since sat are of the same opinion, we need a change of direction, a change of management being the preferred option. Keep it going, we need yere views but stay on message. On another note it was great to see 2 ROSCOMMON lads lifting the minor and senior cups in the hyde on sunday.

Firstly I would have thought some neutral objective views would have been welcomed on this topic?
Underage success and club/Colleges success does not always translate to senior intercounty success i.e Galway underage hurling in the past 15-20 years.
My point is the players rather than management should be looked at, what happens if ye replace manager now have a poor 2013 do you keep changing every year?.
Analyser: You haven't answered my question do you believe Roscommon currently have better senior intercounty players than Donegal?
Ps clegg was your best performer this year

When a county has good underage coming through as roscommon have for the last few years it is important to have a manager to help these guys make it at senior. That is what we are looking for. Galway hurlers seem to have found one at last in Anthony Cunningham.
