Kerins, Donal

The Late Donal Kerins The death occurred recently of Strokestown businessman and GAA activist, Mr Donal Kerins. He was propietor of Donal's Bar and Hardware on Church Street, which he successfully ran with his wife and family for 43 years. Donal was a native of Grange, County Sligo and spent his first few years of his working like in Sligo town, later moving to London and finally setting on Strokestown in 1965. Overall, he had served 66 years "behind the counter", always in his Demark white shirt (sleeves rolled to the elbows!) and navy tie. He was a strong supporter of the GAA (president of the local club) and travelled to the games throughout Ireland.....his first loyalty being to his native Sligo. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Teresa; daughters, Helen, Rosita, Anne and Sile; sons-in-laws, Leo and Tom; brother; Mattie, sisters; Anne and Sheila; grandchildren and wide circle of relations and friends. Following funeral liturgy in Strokestown parish church on Easter Saturday, burial took place in Kilcooley Cemetery, Tulsk. Courtesy of the Roscommon Herald 22 April 2008
