Gallagher, Thomas

The death took place at Tullamore General Hospital of Mr Thomas Gallagher, Upper Curramore, Kiltoom. Aged 70, he had been in ill health for some time and he bore his final illness with Characteristic dignity and fortitude. He had worked as a maintenance person at St Brigid's Hospital, Ballinasloe for a long number of years and he was deservedly popular with his work colleagues and all those associated with his work routines. Noted for his community involvements in his native Kiltoom, he was also a lover of all sports especially Gaelic games. He served as Chairperson of the St Brigid's GAA club from 1969 to 1973 and had the distinction of being a trustee of the club at the time of his death. he was also a lifelong PTAA member and was chairperson of the Kiltoom PTAA Centre for many years. He was also a member of the Kiltoom Parish Pastoral Council for some years and supported all other community and church linked activities. He was devoted to his immediate and extended family and he performed many neighbourly deeds and kind act with typical self effacement over the decades. He is survived by his wife, Eileen (nee Cunningham, Carrigeenmore, Lecarrow) sons, Seamus, Curramore, Michael, Curramore and Padraig, Curramore and daughters, Mrs Adriene Grier, Sallynoggin, Dublin; Mrs Marian Hardiman, Camcloon, Ballydangan and Evelyn, Curramore. He is also survived by one brother, Willie, Gallowstown, Roscommon, sisters, Mrs Bridie O'Boyle; Mrs Maureen Kenny, Carrick, Kiltoom; Mrs Lily Thornton, Foxford; Mrs Mona Duignan, Bealnamullia; Mrs Rita Fleming, London and Mrs Vera Nicholson, Ballyhaunis, six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a number of other relatives. A guard of honour was formed at the removal on Monday evening by his colleagues in the St Brigid's GAA Club. Following Concelebrated Mass at St Peter's Church, Athlone on Tuesday the funeral took place to Kiltoom cemetery. The principal celebrant of the Mass was Rev.Michael Duignan, Sligo, nephew of the deceased, The other celebrants were Very Rev.
