The late Bernard Cunniffe The death took place at Roscommon County Hospital of Mr Bernard Cunniffe, Fortfield House, Cappalisheen, Kiltoom, Athlone. Aged 95, he was an esteemed member of the local farming community and will long be remembered in his residential community for his devotion to his family and his capacity for hard work. He was a member of old Kiltoom Co-Operative Company and the Kiltoom Macra na Feirne Club back in the forties and his interest in farming affairs usually led involvement with the NFA and the IFA latterly. He took a keen interest in all sport, especially Gaelic games and soccer and he was one of the guarantors back in the early fifties for the acquisition of the Newpark GAA grounds from the Irish Land Commission by the St Brigid's GAA Club. A most obliging neighbour and friend, he preformed many charitable deeds and kind acts in the course of his life with typical self effacement. He is survived by his wife, Mai, (nee Gilligan, Newtown, Kiltoom) sons, Brian, Fortfield House, Cappalisheen; Aidan, Lysterfield, Curraghboy and Noel, Rock field House, Cappelisheen and daughters, Mrs Marie Ruane, Scehana, Menlough and Mrs Geraldine Cunniffe Brennan, Home Farm Road, Dublin. He was the last surviving member of six, four girls and two boys, and is survived b eleven grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and innumerable other relatives. Following Concelebrated Mass at St Brigid's Church, Curraghboy on Wednesday the funeral took place to Kiltoom cemetery. The principal celebrant of the Mass was Very Rev. John Cullen, PP, Kiltoom and Cam. The other celebrants were Rev. Hugh Lee, CC, Curraghboy; Very Rev. Gerald Canon Donnelly, retired, PP, Ballygar, a native of Curnaseer, Kiltoom; Rev. Donal Morris, CC, St John's; Very Rev. Paddy Costello, retired, Mountbellew and Very Rev. Sean Kilbane, PP, Menlough and Scehana. Courtesy of the Roscommon Herald.
