The Late Thomas Egan The Roscommon town community is still coming to terms with the tragic and accidental death of a very young local man who died in the River Shannon in Athlone at 3am on Sunday December 7th. Twenty two year old Thomas Egan, son of Tom and Margaret Egan, Cloonbrackna Avenue, Roscommon, was an employee of Russell Brennan Keane accountants in Athlone, having completed a B.Comm degree in Galway. Roscommon Gaels GAA Club members have been deeply shocked and saddened following the death of Mr Egan played in all underage grades with Roscommon Gaels, winning a county minor medal in 1998. He also played rugby at underage level with Creggs RFC. The late Mr Egan is survived by his heartbroken parents, Tom and Margaret; sister, Helen and his brothers, Clive and Conor. The Egan family are well known and highly regarded in the area; the deceased's father works with the Department of Agriculture in Roscommon while his mother works as a physiotherapist at Roscommon County Hospital. A massive crowd attended the removal and funeral on Monday and Tuesday and this too was evidence of the high esteem in which the Egan family are held locally. The remains were removed from Smyth's Funeral Home to the Sacred Heart Church on Monday evening. Following funeral Mass, burial took place in St Coman's Cemetery, Roscommon.
