Donoghue, Kathleen

The death took place on Monday of last week at Portincula Hospital, Ballinasloe of Mrs Kathleen Donoghue, Skyvalley, Taughmaconnell.

Aged 85, she was the former Ms Kathleen Barrett of Ballyforan and was a member of a very well known and highly esteemed farming family. The deceased raised a family of 13 and supported a wide range of community activities in her residential catchment over the decades. A most engaging conversationalist, she was respected for her capacity for hard work and noted for her sense of neighbourliness.

She was an avid sports enthusiast and a supporter of all Padraig Pearses GAA Club teams. She was a member of the Taughmaconnell Bingo Committee for upwards of 25 years and an active member of the Taughmaconnell branch of the County Roscommon Association Supporting People with Special Needs for many years. She was also a member of the now defunct Taughmaconnell ICA Guild for a number of years. Predeceased nine years by her husband, Michael, she is survived by sons, Kevin, Kilkenny; John, Skyvalley; Micheal, Cork; Thomas, Garbally Drive, Ballinasloe and Eamon, Monksland and daughters Mrs Margaret Grehan, Ballyforan; Mrs Mary Duggan, London; Mrs Kitty Tansey, Navan; Mrs Colette Webster, Drum; Mrs Lucy O'Regan, Waterford; Mrs Eileen Whelan, Moore; Mrs Clare Kelly, Ballyforan and Mrs Annette Lynch, Kiltormer.

A member of a family of two girls and two boys, she is survived by one brother Pat, Ballyforan; 45 grandchildren, 28 greatgrandchildren and a number of other relatives. Following Concelebrated Mass at St Ronan's Church, Taughmaconnell, on Wednesday last the burial took place in the nearby cemetery. The celebrants of the Mass were Very Rev. Sean Neylon PP, Taughmaconnell; Very Rev. Canon Liam Devine, PP, St Peter's, Athlone; Very Rev. Francis Beirne, PP, Ballyforan, Four Roads and Dysart; Very Rev Michael Finneran PP, Cloontuskert, a native of Onagh, Taughmaconnell; Right Rev Mons John Killeen, retired Togher, Taughmaconnell and Very Rev. Michael Molloy PP, Moore.
