Coman Brady
The death took place unexpectedly in New York, on Monday, July 20th, of Fr. Coman Valentine Brady Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York and formerly of Main street, Elphin. Aged 74, the late Fr. Coman was ordained for Brooklyn diocese on June 13th, 1959 and ministered in St. Frances of Assisi Church, Flatbush and St. Mary Magdalene, Queens, becoming pastor of St.Vincents Ferris Church in 1981 where he served until his death. He played Gaelic football for Elphin and was a member of the winning senior football championship team in 1957.
Actively involved in the Irish community in New York, he was a member of the New York Roscommon Association, Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbanus. His work in New York for peace over the years saw him awarded the all American Pax Christ award and he was an active member of the New York Kairos Movement for peace. In his free time, he enjoyed golf, hill walking, bird watching, stamp collecting and photography. Fr. Coman will be sadly missed by his family, relatives and community on both sides of the Atlantic. Predeceased by his brothers Sean, Fr. Pat, Eamon, Aidan and Joe, he is survived by his sisters, Marie, Drumcondra; Patty Holland, Dunshaughlin; Brother, Kevin, Brooklyn; sister-in-law, 35 nephews and nieces, 60 grand-nephews and grand-nieces and a large circle of relatives. His remains were removed from Brady's Funeral Home to St.Patricks Church, Eplhin. Mass of the resurrection was celebrated by his nephew, Fr.Declan Brady, Chaplain IT Sligo, with main concelebrants, Most Rev Bishop Christopher Jones Mgn. Kevin Flanagan, New jersey and Kilglass, classmate of Fr. Coman along with many other priests. Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery
