Berrigan, Willie

The death took place on Friday week last at the Sonas Private Nursing Home, Athlone, of Mr Willie Berrigan, Clonark, Athlone. Aged 73, he was a member of a highly esteemed local farming family and had been in ill health for a short time. He was a well known agricultural contractor in his residential area for over 30 years and he was respected for his honesty, sense of decency and integrity in that work role. He was a very competent judge of all livestock, especially cattle and sheep and took a keen interest in all farming affairs and current affairs generally. Of a caring and affable disposition, he was a lover of all sport and was a lifelong Clann na Gael Club supporter. He had been a member of the Clann Na Gael Club panel that brought the first senior title to the club in 1961 and he remained a lifelong Club member. He is survived by brothers, Michael, Clonark and Paddy, Clonark and a number of other relatives. Following Mass on Sunday week at St Brigid's Church, Drum, the burial took place in Drum Cemetery. The celebrant of the Mass was Rev. Ray Milton CC and Drum. - Roscommon Herald, 21st October 2008
