Clarke, Gerry
October 14, 2008
The death occurred peacefully at Castlebar Hospital on September 25th of Mr Gerry Clarke, Pound Street.
His remains were removed from The Sharkey Funeral Home on Monday evening, September 29th to St. Nathy's Cathedral and burial was on Tuesday 30th after concelebrated Mass at 11am to Kilcolman Cemetery. He was predeceased by his wife, Maura and is deeply regretted by his sons John, Gerry and Desmond, daughters Rose and Carmel, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, relatives and a wide circle of friends and neighbours.
Gerry lived all his life in Ballaghaderreen where he was well known and highly respected, a gentle man always cheerful with a friendly word for everyone, young and old. He had a life long association with the GAA, was secretary of the local club for many years and was PRO at the time of his death. He rarely if ever missed a game at all levels and travelled to every club in Mayo to support our local players and also a regular at Croke Park on All-Ireland days.
There was a huge crowd at the removal of his remains on Monday evening and again at his funeral Mass on Tuesday. Gerry would surely be looking down at the weekend and see and probably urged them along in their match against Crossmolina to come through to the final of the senior championship on Sunday next. Good luck boys and may Gerry's soul rest in peace. He will be missed by his family but also by the many friends and associates he had met throughout his life.
