Not one to build up players, Roscommon manager Anthony Cunningham is certainly not treating Kerry import Conor Cox any different to the rest of the players on the squad.

Roscommon supporters have been excited by the arrival of Cox who has produced some excellent displays in the yellow and blue jersey.

The Rossies will be looking for a big performance from the marquee forward in Sunday’s Connacht SFC final, but Cunningham stressed to the Roscommon Herald that every day Cox goes out, he needs to improve as does every player on the squad.

“We could see from his early days in training that he was skilful. But no more than any of the other players, he has to keep improving. That’s the way every player is treated,” said Cunningham.

“It’s about getting on the match day 26. There’s a lot of competition in the full forward line. Conor has to get his game right every night we train. He’s no different to any other of the 36 that are on the panel.

“There’s a big fight to get on the match day 26 because the game is gone to 21 or 22 players now. He has to keep improving because if he’s a Dean Rock, a Bernard Brogan, or a Shane Walsh, they’re improving every single day they go out. That’s the mentality you want to try and teach all these players. Conor, the same as any other player we have, has to keep working on his game.”
