Comerford points to work ethic

Roscommon manager Ciaran Comerford believes that his charges work ethic makes them a very difficult side to defeat.

The Rossies have surprised many by reaching the Christy Ring Cup semi-finals this year, but on Saturday, they take on Down with a place in the decider at stake.

Last weekend, they lost out to Meath, but both teams had already qualified for the last four and it could be said that Roscommon face the weaker of the Ulster sides in the semis (the other being Derry).

Comerford has been delighted with his side’s performances to date and he told the Roscommon Herald that it is built on a work ethic that their opponents are struggling to cope with.

“The lads go about their game in a workmanlike fashion. That’s half the battle. It’s going to take a very good and organised outfit to walk away with a game on us,” stated Comerford.

He added: “It’s all down to the players, their own hard work. We’ve put certain parameters in front of them in terms of playing a certain way but, at the end of the day, it’s down to them and how they apply themselves.

“I can’t ask anymore of this group of players. They’ve seen that the hard work has paid off for them and hopefully we’ll get another good performance next weekend.”
