U10 Hurling

Our U10 hurlers had a busy weekend!

Saturday morning saw us welcome Ratoath from Co. Meath to Lisnamult for 2 challenge games against our older U10s. Fantastic games between both teams on a warm and sunny morning to show off our boys ever developing set of hurling skills. Thanks to Ratoath GAA for making the trip in advance of the Roscommon / Meath Christy Ring cup tie in Athleague. We look forward to making the return trip to Meath later in the Summer!

Sunday saw our full U10 panel take part in the family fun day games. While conditions were blistery, all our players were delighted with the opportunity to play on the main pitch in front of all our club members and family.

Training this Monday (June 3rd) is cancelled to give us all a chance to catch our breath after a busy weekend.

Next up....... we have arranged a challenge game against Southern Gaels in Athlone next Monday (June 10th). All players are asked to be at Southern Gaels grounds at 6:40 Monday June 10th. As Southern Gaels visited us 2 weeks ago, we ask that all players attend.

Official Opening

Roscommon Gaels ushered in a new era on Sunday (2nd June) with the “Official Opening “of our fabulous new dressing room facilities in Lisnamult. What a major milestone in our 60 year club history.

Despite the wind, the club was absolutely delighted when our supporters from our academy, Junior section, Senior section, past players, Associates, family and friends turned out to celebrate and join in the planned festivities.

Apart from the Dressing Rooms Opening ceremony itself, these festivities also incorporated a family fun day. Everybody who attended was treated to top quality refreshments plus tea/coffee throughout the day.

The staging of this “Dressing rooms Opening” was a massive logistically operation and it would not have been the success it was, without so many of our club members getting involved. The commitment, spirit and the teamwork displayed by everybody was fantastic – Many thanks to everybody who got involved.

All morning long members and friends were pouring through the gates in Lisnamult.

As things started to come to an end, our no nonsense “Clean up Team” moved into action!!! So again many thanks to the great clean up team. All photos taken by Shelly will be put up on the Club Facebook and Club Website over the next day or two.
One of the most talked about things on the day was the ABSOLUTLY AMAZING Official Opening cake that was baked by Yvonne Donohue – The attention to detail and the creativity of this cake was honestly brilliant and the cake was simply delicious!!!

Speaking about the opening event, Chairperson Teresa Hession said it was a product of the calibre of people in the club that helped bring the dressing rooms development to fruition.

Teresa went on to say “It shows the strength we have in the club; it’s not just about sport but the people that are in the club. You’re only as good as the people in the club. “It shows the superb type of people we have around our Roscommon Gaels Club”.

The changing rooms have really brought the club’s comforts into the 21st Century as they include top of the range changing rooms, lovely toilet and shower facilities, a modern kitchen set up, loads of storage. who could ask for anything more!!!

Teresa added that she was delighted with the very large number of supporters that came to the opening. The day turned out to be a great Roscommon Gaels Club event and it was so special that so many of our Honorary Life Members and past players came along.

Where to start.....A massive Thank You to all who came along and supported our Family Fun Day in Lisnamult. A great day of fun and games. Thanks to all who helped out in any way, Simply impossible to name everyone individually, So Thanks one and All.... A great team effort and the day could not have happened or ran so smoothly without your help.

Please go over to our facebook page where there are lots of photos from the day.
