Sweeney praise for Hyde Park workers

June 06, 2018

Hyde Park, Roscommon.

Roscommon chairman Seamus Sweeney has heaped praise on all those who have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks to ensure that Dr Hyde Park would host this year's Connacht SFC final.

The Rossies will have home advantage for the decider as they take on Galway for the third consecutive year, while they look to retain their title.

This will be the first time that the provincial final has been played at Hyde Park since 2015 and Sweeney admitted to the Roscommon Herald that it would not have been possible without the help of the GAA community.

"Anyone who was in Dr Hyde Park for the under-20 game on Saturday evening will have seen that a lot of preparatory work is either completed or well underway," said Sweeney.

"That demonstrates the commitment that the people of this county have shown to their home venue. A huge amount of people have put their shoulder to the wheel to make this happen, including volunteers who gave up their time to be part of the effort, our clubs, members of the board and the local business community who were very vocal about why the game should be played here in Roscommon.

"We're very happy that people came out to put their views on record about the importance of getting this event into the Hyde."
