Offaly U'13 A County Football Champions 

On Saturday  Rhode U13 footballers were crowned  U13 A football champions following and electric  game of football against St.Rynaghs where both teams gave an truly amazing display off football where it took 80 mins of football to decide the winner. Rhode were down 3 points at the half and went out in the second half with all guns blazing and took the game to St.Rynaghs and with a few mins to go Rhode went a point up  but after 30 mins plus the game was a draw with score-line of 3-12 to 5-06. In extra time Rhode went ahead and were one point up at the half and in the second half of extra time It was tight again and with a change of subs gave Rhode the edge and one point were 6 points up which St.Rynaghs got it back to two points but it wasn't enough for  them as the final whistle blew and thankfully the celebrations begun as Rhode U13s were crowned champions. It was such a joyous day and tears were shed as these young super stars brought home the cup to the Parish.  Team Captain Cameron Egan accepted the cup on behalf of his team mates thanking their parents for their support, the management team for their hard work and Club minor secretary Tracey Murphy for all her hard work and support.Finally thanking the supporters for turning out. The team were giving a homecoming they will never forget   marching into the Village by escort where they were met by a massive crowd in Killens Car Park where Club Chairman John Kilmuuray & Minor Club secretary Stephen Darby addressed the crowd and spoke of the teams success . Following a few minerals in Killens the team and management were treated to a feed in the hall.

This is a win that will not be forgotten by anyone who  witnessed it for along time.

1969 winning County champions 50th Anniversary Celebrations  

On Saturday  evening last Rhode GAA members and players of the past came together to remember and celebrate the wonderful achievements of the 1969 Senior team  etched their way into the history books of Rhode and Offaly Football as Legends. It was a night of nostalgia for many as some met their team mates for the first time in many years having gone to live and work further afield. Celebrations got under-way with Mass for the team and all deceased members of Rhode GAA  club. This was followed by a meal for the players and representatives in Killens Lounge. Fr,Greg addressed  those present giving thanks for the lovely meal and for all present and the success of the club while also saying a prayer and sending best wishes to John Glennon. 1969 Team Captain cut the cake on behalf of his team mates where he then spoke of his pride of been captain and honored to represent Rhode and his delight that the U13s had won the championship today.  MC club secretary Eoghan Hickey got the presentation proceedings  underway inviting Chairman John Kilmuuray to address the crowd . John spoke of his pride to be addressing such legendary figures as chairman of this great club. How important their achievements were in affecting the clubs great successes in the future   years. finally adding congratulations to the U13 footballers. John then presented them with  special momento's honoring their great Achievements. Former Chairman Gerry Reidy remembered fondly living & deceased players and club administrators  for  the role they played in the clubs successes and the achievements of the 1969 team. Speaking of the present team saying that they have done the club proud with their successes. Delighted to here of  the U13s winning the championship. The Footballing Maestro himself the Legendary Paddy Kerrigan who over seen the winning teams as manager  spoke passionately about his players and the club for giving him so many happy memories . He thanked the club for this wonderful night and wished all the very best in the years to come.

 

Much reminiscing  took place on the night with many a yarn told and a song sang. May there be many more nights to be enjoyed for the Green and Gold.  

 

Many Thanks to the committee for orgainsing the event, Colm & Cathriona Killeen and staff for  a wonderful meal and service through out the evening.
