Tullamore Court Hotel Senior B Football Championship Quarter Final.

Ballycumber 1—12   Walsh Island 0---8.

A goal from a penalty, which was awarded for a foul on Adrian Kelly and expertly converted by Joe Lowry was the score that Ballycumber needed. They had started the game in the Faithful Fields with two points from Cormac Quinn and a point from play from the lively Adrian Kelly to lead by three points. Walsh Island drew level with two points from play and one from a converted free. Cormac Quinn restored the lead for Ballycumber with a point from a free. Walsh Island levelled the game again and took the lead for the only time in the match with a point from a 45. The goal from the penalty gave Ballycumber a two point advantage and Joe Lowry added a point from play to leave Ballycumber leading by three points at half time.

Adrian Kelly got the scoreboard ticking over with the first point of the second half. Walsh Island reduced the lead with a point from a free and another from play. Cormac and Adrian  added two points before Walsh Island got their last point of the game.  During this period Ballycumber missed a number of point scoring opportunities and Walsh Island were reduced in numbers. Joe Lowry exploited the extra space and added three points from play and Nigel Grennan finished the scoring with a well taken point after receiving a terrific 40 metre foot pass from Jack Quinn.

This was a much improved performance from Ballycumber and the management deserve credit for getting the match ups correct. The positioning of Ethan Keena at full back was an inspired move and Ethan’s performance set the tone for all the other players. The two corner backs- Alan Flanagan and Donal Lynam were outstanding and gave goalkeeper Ritchie Dunne a trouble free evening. The rest of the team played very well and with a bit more accuracy near goal could have added to their total score. Walsh Island never gave up and even when reduced in numbers kept trying in line with the great tradition of their club.

Ballycumber will now face Durrow in the semi final.

Under 13 Football.

Well done to St Manchan Gaels under 13 team who defeated Tullamore in a play off by 5—7 to 4—7 in O’Brien Park on Wednesday.

Minor Football.

Congratulations to St Manchan Gaels minor footballers who defeated St Rynaghs in Cloghan on Wednesday by 2—19 to 3—7 in round 5 of the minor B competition and have finished top of the group and qualified for the semi final.

Hurling.

Best wishes to Brosna Gaels who will play Clara in the Molloy Environmental Systems Intermediate hurling quarter final in Banagher on Saturday at 3.30. All support is much appreciated.

Junior Football.

Congratulations to our neighbours Doon GAA Club who are Offaly Junior Football Champions after defeating Edenderry in Bord na Mona O’Connor Park on Saturday.

Lotto.

The numbers drawn this week were 6,11,14,25.  No jackpot winner, three match three winners. Ballycumber Dance Classses

Learn how to Jive, Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot and Line dance. Dance Classes every Monday night from 8pm in Ballycumber Community Centre.  Beginners class 8 - 9, Improvers from 9 - 10 and dancing for all from 10 - 11pm.  Great exercise and good fun, no partners required.

History.

Ballycumber History Group are continuing to research the 80 men and women from the Ballycumber area who fought in World War 1. The group would appreciate any information on any of the men and women who answered the call and would love to meet family members.
