Despite being in a relegation battle, Offaly manager John Maughan is proud of his players’ application to the campaign so far.

Their fate is out of their own hands as they must beat winless Sligo and hope that Laois defeat Carlow for them to have a chance of retaining their FL3 status.

Maughan is disappointed to be in the position that they find themselves, but speaking to the Midland Tribune, he had plenty of praise for his squad.

“We’ve a lot of young lads that are playing lower level club football and every day’s a school for them,” said Maughan.

“I have to say that I respect every one of the lads in that dressingroom. There’s 26 togged out, two more that didn’t make the 26 and a couple more that weren’t available due to injury.

“These are the boys that want to play for Offaly, that are prepared to work hard. I’m not for a minute suggesting that the lads we don’t have are the reason we didn’t win against Laois, that game was there to be won and we didn’t win it.”
