Legendary GAA commentator Micheal O'Hehir would have celebrated his 100th birthday today.

The only child of Jim and Esther O’Hehir, who both hailed from Co. Clare, Micheal was born in Glasnevin on June 2 1920.

Micheal went on to become the 'Voice of Gaelic Games', commentating firstly on radio and later on television between 1938 and '85. He commentated on 99 All-Ireland finals overall and missed out on a landmark 100th after suffering a stroke in 1985.

The much loved Micheal O'Hehir, who passed away on November 24 1996 aged 76, brought gaelic football and hurling to the masses long before the internet and social media existed, and his name will forever be synonymous with the GAA.
