FL3: Offaly hang on against Louth

Offaly 2-13

Louth 2-10

Early goals from Anton Sullivan and Ruairi McNamee laid the foundations for Offaly's first victory in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League at Louth's expense in Drogheda.

Conditions were awful for this rescheduled tie which fell victim to Storm Ciara last weekend. The visitors couldn't have asked for a better start when Sullivan and McNamee raised green flags inside the opening 11 minutes. Wing back Eoin Carroll kicked three first half points, while Bernard Allen and Conor McNamee were also on target as John Maughan's men took a 2-7 to 0-3 lead into the break.

Louth, who remain without a win, looked dead and buried when further scores from Niall Darby and McNamee extended the Faithful County's advantage to 12 points after the restart.

But the hosts refused to throw in the towel and stormed back to within a point thanks to four points from substitute Declan Byrne, and goals from Sam Mulroy and Conor Grimes.

However, McNamee grabbed the last two points to give the visitors the win as Louth finished with 13 men following the late dismissals of Mulroy (straight red) and Tommy Durnin (second yellow).
