Rhode club notes

October 14, 2019

Rhode GAA express our Deepest Sympathy to the Mulvin Family on the sad and sudden passing of  Tony Mulvin JKL Edenderry/ formerly of Rhode.

Son of the late Pat. Deeply regretted by his mother Evelyn, sisters Mary and Evelyn, brothers Paraic, Dermot, Paul and Lorcan, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends.

Tony served the club with Great distinction having played for Rhode at every level.  Tony then went on to serve as club secretary for a number of years in that he was also Irish Language Officer for Offaly County Board. His support of Rhode never waned and was recently in attendance at the Semi Final game against Clara. Indeed he would have been the first one in O’Connor Park last Sunday for the county Final. Tony’s Funeral mass took place on Monday afternoon last in Edenderry. He was giving a great send off with a full guard of honour.

Tony was one of life’s true Gentlemen and will never be forgotten by all who knew him.

May Tony Rest In Peace

Senior Football final.

Rhode Senior footballers were defeated on a score-line of 0-14 to 2-13 by Ferbane in O'Connor Park Tullamore. Despite the great football Rhode played throughout the game it just wasn't enough to  reclaim the Dowling cup as Ferbane kept fighting back and claimed the win their first in 25 years. We were leading the game for about 46 minutes and were 2 up at the break.  Every Rhode player died on their feet out their giving it their all and should be very proud of the football they played. We are very proud of you boys and you have giving us as a club some special days and their is no doubting we will be back thanks Men for your hard work.. Much thanks to our wonderful supporters who are just special people you never let us down-and that was evident last night with the welcome home you gave.   On the Day there was a minute silence for the late great Tony Mulvin who was a great club man who no doubt was watching from above.

A special thanks to the management team of Jer Glavin, Anthony Murphy, Paschal kellaghan, Jack Cooney and Declan Gorman for their fantastic work throughout the year. Thanks also to the background team of Ollie Murphy, Robert Kellaghan , John Kilmurray, Stats Mark Hynes, Physio Martha Kelaghan and not forgetting our water boys Jack Murphy, Dylan Kilmurray & Cian Murphy. A great bunch of people who do great work. A big thanks also to Sharon and Tracey who kept the team fed after training it was very much appreciated.
