SENIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4

Raheen Senior Footballers picked up their first win of the Championship getting the better of Ferbane in the 4th and final round of the group stage of the Senior B Championship last Friday evening in Gracefield on a scoreline of 4-12 to 2-11. This result along with Bracknagh’s 1-15 to 0-10 win over Ballycumber was not enough for Raheen to avoid the relegation final with Ballycumber claiming the quarter final spot on just a 4 points scoring difference and so these sides must meet again in the relegation final in 2 weeks. In the group game Raheen opted to play with the strong breeze in the first half so needed to build up a lead and this they did as by half time Raheen led by 1-09 to 1-03 with the Raheen goal coming on 8 mins when Lee Mulpeter’s shot in from the left sideline just inside the 45 was punched to the net by Conor Carroll on the edge of the square but Ferbane responded with their goal on 14 mins. In the second half Ferbane hit back scoring 1-03 to Raheen’s 1 point inside the first 10 mins to cut Raheen’s lead to just a single point but Raheen responded first with a point followed by their second goal on 12 mins when quick thinking by Kaelyn Thompson with a free as he picked out James Lalor unmarked on the edge of the square who caught and blasted his shot to the net. Ferbane then added 3 points before Raheen struck for goal no 3 on 23 mins from sub Richie Reynolds. A further point for Ferbane before they were reduced to 14 players with a straight red for their no 22 Paddy Moore. Both sides then added a point apiece from frees in the final minute before Raheen sealed the win with the 4th goal in stoppage time as Adam Kelly got the final touch in a goal mouth scramble.

RAHEEN: James Boland, Brian Corcoran, Liam Boland, Chris Floody, Liam Gorman, James Lalor (1-00), Adam Kelly (1-00), Niall Dempsey (0-01), Declan Byrne, Glen Hassett (0-01), Jack Keogh, Conor McNally (0-02), Lee Mulpeter, Conor Carroll (1-03), Kaelyn Thompson (0-04).
