DIVISION 5 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

It’s 2 wins out of 2 in the Div 5 League for Raheen Junior Footballers as they followed up their opening round win over Bracknagh with a comprehensive win over Daingean in Rd 2 last Wednesday week in Daingean on a scoreline of 3-14 to 0-06. Raheen were first off the mark with the opening 3 points before Daingean drew level with their opening 3 points by the midpoint of the first half but when Mikey Buckley struck for Raheen’s first goal on 23 mins there was no way back and by half time Raheen had edged clear to lead 1-06 to 0-05. In the second half there was only the one team in it as Raheen cruised home scoring 2-08 to 0-01, the second goal coming on 11 mins when Lee Mulpeter’s shot was blocked by the keeper but picked up by Stephen Pierce who rounded the keeper to shoot to the net and the third goal coming just on the stroke of full time when Colin Keogh’s shot was punched to the net by Aiden Pierce.

RAHEEN: Keith Kirwan, Fionan Direen, Brian Corcoran, David Boland, Mikey Buckely (1-00), Colin Keogh, Aiden Pierce (1-00), Mark Gorman, Padraig Bracken, Reece Seery, Gavin Kelly (0-02), Liam Gorman (0-03), Lee Mulpeter (0-05), Mark McNally, James Bryan (0-01).

SUBS: Stephen Coughlan (for Fionan Direen), Eanna Direen (for Aiden Pierce), Sean Cleary (0-01) (for Mark Gorman), Aiden Pierce (for Padraig Bracken), Stephen Pierce (1-00) (for Reece Seery), Noel Gorman (0-02) (for Mark McNally).

DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Raheen Senior Footballers remain with just the 1 win on board as they were beaten by Ballycomman in Rd 5 of the Div 2 League last Sunday morning in Ballycomman on a scoreline of 1-17 to 0-08 but remained in the game the final 10 mins when they trailed by just 3 points. Despite being down by 4 points to no score after 10 mins Raheen clawed their way back to trail by just 3 at the break 0-08 to 0-05. Within 5 mins of the restart a couple of frees from Conor Carroll for Raheen left just a single point in it but Ballycomman responded with 2 points of their own by the 10th min to restore the 3 point advantage. A point apiece over the next 10 mins maintained the 3 points difference going into the final 10 mins but then Ballycomman’s greater fitness stood to them as they hit 1-06 without reply thereafter to seal it.

RAHEEN: James Boland, Adam Kelly, Brian Corcoran, David Boland, Aidan Pierce, Colin Keogh, Brian Crombie (0-02), Declan Byrne, Conor Carroll (0-03), Mikey Keogh, Gavin Kelly (0-01), Jack Keogh (0-01), Glen Hassett, Mark McNally, James Bryan (0-01).

SUB: Liam Gorman (for David Boland).
