The old adage of 'goals win games' was certainly the case in the provincial minor football championships tonight as Dublin, Meath, Westmeath, Wicklow and Cork all recorded important wins.

In Leinster, Dublin assured themselves of a quarter-final place when coming away from Tullamore with a 2-13 to 0-13 over hosts Offaly while holders Meath, Westmeath and Wicklow scored 15 goals between them as Wexford, Carlow and Louth were easily beaten on their travels.

Meanwhile, in Munster, Cork bounced back from last week's 16-point thrashing to Kerry to defeat Phase 1 winners Clare in Ennis.
