The plight of the Offaly hurlers was one of the main talking points at the most recent county board meeting.

The main issue is the fact that so many players wouldn’t commit to the squad for the 2019 campaign.

Raheen club chairman John Hackett stated that there had been some changes in personnel since last year.

“A lot of comments are being made about Offaly’s plight. The two league defeats were not unexpected,” said Hackett.

“I brought my family to Croke Park last year when Offaly gave a great performance to beat Dublin. We were all made up. This year against Waterford, we had three starters from that night. I find that incredible.”

There have been rumours circulating in Offaly that there is unrest in the camp, and Offaly chairman Tommy Byrne hinted that all is not well at the moment.

“We are discussing our problems. We mightn’t always like the answers but we are discussing them. What can we do with injuries?”
