Jayson Matthew's second-half goal was decisive as St Columba's, Mullinalaghta edged out Rhode in today's Leinster Club SFC quarter-final at O'Connor Park, Tullamore.

Matthews struck for the game’s only goal early in the second-half and Mickey Graham’s charges went on to claim a 1-6 to 0-7 win.

Rhode played most of the game with 14 men after Brian Darby saw red in the 17th minute.

The sides went in for the break tied at 0-3 apiece and a goal was always going to have a major bearing on the outcome.

Anton Sullivan and Rhode had a three pointer disallowed for a square ball infringement five minutes into the second-half and their woes were compounded when Matthews goaled at the opposite end of the field shortly after.

Late points from John Keegan and Donal McElligott separated the two teams at the final whistle and the Longford champions now face a semi-final showdown with Carlow’s Eire Og.
