Championship Match

Daingean defeated Clonbullogue in the first round of the Intermediate championship last Saturday evening. Daingean started the brighter of the two teams and some nice scores meant they were 4 points to 1 up with just 8 minutes played.

Daingean played some good attractive football throughout, and were leading by 9 points to 4 after twenty minutes, however the concession of 5 converted frees in the first half alone allowed Clonbullogue to stay in touch, and with Clonbullogue finishing the half with some well taking scores, the game was surprisingly 9 points apiece at half time .

Noteworthy moments of the 1st half was a superb block down by Brendan McAuliffe to stop a certain Clonbullogue goal and beautiful score where Ciaran McEvoy won a mark at midfield after being picked out by Conan Curley, he then played a long ball into Shane Tierney whose dummy solo provided him with the space to kick an easy point off his weaker foot.

The start of the 2nd half was a tit for tat affair with both sides finding the scores easy to come by. With the score at 11 points to 10, a crossfield ball into the heart of the Daingean defence wasn't dealt with and Clonbullogue scored a goal to take the lead for the first time.

However Daingean responded well and kicked the next 3 points leaving the score 1-10 to 14 points.

The game then turned in Daingean's favour as some tenacious defending by the Daingean backs led to a free out being awarded, a subsequent skirmish led to Clonbullogue getting a man sent off, and an almost immediate Colm Brennan fisted goal left the scoreline 1-14 to 1-10.

Clonbullogue fought hard to get back into the game from there on out and had plenty of possession including a goal opportunity, but the numerical advantage meant that Daingean were able to break quickly (most notably through the pace of substitute Adam Bolger on his championship debut) and the game finished 1-17 to 1-12.

A good 5 point win for Daingean and a terrific open free flowing game of football enjoyed by all in attendance.

Winning Streak

They say good luck comes in three's and never was it a truer statement than when Jimmy Kilmurray's name was pulled out of the bin to appear on Winning Streak this Saturday.

After finishing joint first in the Last Man Standing competition and winning the jackpot in the Daingean GAA lotto last week, it has been great few weeks for Jimmy

Jimmy is a die hard fan who rarely misses a game or event, the club looks forward to tuning in and supporting him, hopefully he spins the wheel.
