Daniel Currams defied the odds to play in Kilcormac/Killoughey's Offaly SHC final win over St. Rynagh's on October 1.

The highly-rated forward came off the bench to score three points, a mere 29 days after breaking his leg.

"The break was close to my ankle and I needed some stitches because it was an open wound but that was the only surgery I had. I did a lot of work with our physio Tommy Conway to get back and it's been fine since," he said at an AIB press conference ahead of Sunday's Leinster club SHC final.

"The power of the mind is an amazing thing."

Currams revealed how he was inspired to get back as soon as he did after reading Kilkenny hurler Jackie Tyrrell's autobiography.

"I was just reading his book one night and when he got injured, he used to go and get it rubbed out every day," he said.

"That just sort of sparked it off one night when I was reading. I texted the physio then. Nothing to lose and from there I just got it in my head, did everything I could."

On the task of facing All-Ireland club champions Cuala, the Moate Community College teacher added: "Cuala are deserving favourites and it's going to be the toughest game we've played this year, but you have to have a bit of belief too that you're going to win, that you're not just going up to make up the numbers.

"For most of us this is our third Leinster final and we only lost to Ballyhale in extra-time in 2014 when we had a great chance to beat them. Lads aren't going to be fazed by the occasion because most of us have been to two finals before. That's obviously a positive and we can draw on that experience."
