Former Westmeath, Sligo and Offaly manager Pat Flanagan has been named as the new manager of Roscommon side Padraig Pearses.

In recent weeks, Flanagan has been linked to a number of club jobs including Westmeath side Athlone, but the Roscommon club have secured his services for 2018.

It is a signal of their intentions for the coming year to appoint a high profile manager following a disappointing 2017 campaign, having reached the previous two county finals.

Flanagan has had plenty of success at club level guiding his native club Clara to county titles in 2003 and 2009, while in between he won the Westmeath title with Tyrrellspass in 2006 and 2007.

Padraig Pearses will ply their trade in section B of the Roscommon SFC in 2018, having lost all five of their championship games this year.
