I just wondering if any other gaels out there fear for the future of Hurling in the Monaghan. With the debacle of the county team earlier this year and now it appears little or no talk about the county final at the weekend.. which has potential to be a real cracker. I fear that hurling is fast becoming redundant in the county... All the talk about promoting the game and nothing appears to be actually done to promote the game in the county.. Surely this should start with the county board getting off their backsides and promoting the biggest game of the hurling calendar within the county?? Any views out there?

Yes I have an idea "hurling_voice" get up of your own backside and do something for hurling instead of making this forum a County Board bashing device for the self promotion plans of certain individuals

i presume we will have all our great county board officers heading up to croke park for the hurling final on sunday week 9th Sep and pretending to show their great love for hurling. let me remind them what they done to our county hurling team back in april, shame on them.

"Monaghanrebel" if the Moinaghan CB were doing their job properly they would get rid of the County Senior Hurling team like Cavan did,and concentrate on under age hurling. Do you think the Killkenny CB would call off hurling games in the county if the County Footballers were playing in a Div. 3 1/2 final against a team they were already 3 or 4 points ahead of in the Division and with no promotion on offer to a higher Division? Me thinks not. They don't even put off games before Hurling League Finals. Besides, the team and their manager were offered a 6 day break before the Fingal game and were not happy with that. At that stage the CB should not have waited for any more shenangins. They should have disbanded the County Hurling team for a period of 5 years and concentrated on the youth

Seamus, what would be the point in concentrating on youth if they have no senior team to move onto when they are finished minor? And on your point that kilkenny wouldnt postpone club matchs before a league final that is irrelavant, because if monaghan reached a DIV3 football final next year, i would put my house on it that all clubs games would be postponed a week previous, and all the hurlers are looking for is to be treating the same as the footballers who are as u put it only 1/2 a division above them!!!

pooper_trooper I would also object to any club hurling games being called off the week before a Div. 3 NHL Final should the county be in it. As regards your other point, lets get a talented well coached bunch to Minor level first and then Under 21 level and then lets worry about a Senior County team. I doubt there would be many Monaghan born sportsmen denied participation in sport just because we don't have a Senior Hurling team until 2017. Get clubs amalgamated and develop club hurling first along with Cavan and other surrounding counties. With co-operation between clubs and good coaching at juvenile level we should be able to sustain maybe 8 teams in the county and that would do much more for the sport in Monaghan than a bunch of guys who can't play a Div.3 Final on 6 days rest.

I have played hurling all my life and at all levels for Monaghan. Following the NHL fiasco, the sport is now dead in Monaghan I feel. The county board were wrong playing intermediate fball on the wednesday and division 3 final only a few days later. But the big fiasco was the failure, inability, cowardice even, of the hurling clubs county board delegates to mount a serious, proper argument, indeed a demand for heads to roll , at the subsequent county board meeting. No point crying here that the county board did this and that, the bottom line is that if you feel hard done by, then stand and fight like a man, or else roll away crying behind a keyboard with your tissue and hope your mammy brings you some tea and chocolate biscuits to put a smile on your face again! Bottom line, county board were wrong, but the hurling clubs let them off the hook.

hurling in monaghan will be dead in the next 2years. how could anybody arrange a county senior hurling league final for 11.00am on sunday the day of the all ireland football final iit does not make sense it goes to show how high hurling is on the agenda of our great county board. the way things are going will they bother with any hurling competions next year. more broken promises from our top two men

tadghieboy County: Cork Posts: 42 hurling clubs stood up to the cb and do what, nt play any club games, they would have loved that, one less heindrance in their eyes. the hurling clubs have no say in this county and thats the bottom line, the only people in the county who would care if hurling disappeared would be people involved in hurling.
The attitude to hurling in this county and it starts with the county board, they need to get the finger out and stop treating hurling as a 2nd class sport compared to football, after all there has been as much if not more silverware won in hurling, with more encouragement we could be competing at a higher level no problem. last year we went unbeaten in the league after 3 months of hard work, theres no reason why the hurlers cant compete in christy ring and ulster if the same effort is put in over a number of years.
on to your point Seamus monaghan minors have beaten all teams they have played this year bar fingal, all these teams are in the same or below monaghan in senior level, so its not like there isnt the quality there to come into the senior panel and improve it.

Back to the hurling situation.Have been looking around the situation in Cavan and they are making great strides with development since the disbanding of the Senior County team. Meanwhile the prima donnas in our county still go on whinging about our County Board. Time for us to follow Cavan example and concentrate on juvenile development an a regional basis in the county and forget about all the egos that have been hurt by last year's happenings re the county team.
