Mixed news for Monaghan

Monaghan manager Malachy O'Rourke has received mixed news on the injury front ahead of the Ulster SFC quarter-final against Antrim on June 9.

A knee injury to Dermot Malone has been tempered by the news that Tommy Freeman will be available to face the Saffrons. The former All Star forward had wire removed from his left jaw over the weekend and is expected to resume training immediately.

Fellow attacker Malone, however, is facing minor surgery to repair cartilage damage to a knee injury he sustained in last month's Allianz Football League final win over Meath.

"It will leave him out for a number of weeks," O'Rourke said in the Irish Daily Mirror.

"It depends on how severe the injury is and at this stage we're not exactly sure. He had a knee injury way back and he was coming back from that when he got a knock in the final which flared up again.

"He's definitely going to be missing a fair bit of training, so it will be tough for him to get back in time."
