Club Lotto

We had no winner of the lotto draw this week. The numbers drawn were 10, 12, 21 and 28. The lucky dip winners were Maeve Brennan, Gerard McAree, Kelly family and Mary and Emmet Cosgrove. Each winner receives €30. The next draw will take place on Monday evening and will be for a jackpot of €3200. Lotto can now be played as before, and envelopes are now back in circulation in Justin’s and McGrane’s. Alternatively it can be played on-line using the link below:https://play.clubforce.com/play_newa.asp?ll_id=672&_ga=#Anchor  or by downloading the Clubforce App.

Return to Play

Well done to all our teams who returned to training last week and adhered to all the guidelines set out by the HSE and the club. Great work has been done by all our coaches and Covid Supervisors to ensure that all our players remain safe.

Car park safety

As we are getting back to normal can we please remind everybody to safely use the car park. Please enter the car park through the main gates and observe the 5kmph speed limit.

This will ensure the safety of everyone as the club grounds are busy once again with training.

Patsy Marron - An Appreciation

The recent death in his 92nd year of Patsy Marron, Corrybracken marked the end of an era for Magheracloone Mitchells GFC.

Patsy was the last surviving member of a committee formed in 1962 to purchase and develop the Sports Field which served the club so well until the momentous events of 24th September 2018 when the grounds were destroyed by a mine tunnel collapse. When the pitch was eventually developed and drained, Patsy and Richie McMahon sowed the grass seed with fiddles.

In the early nineteen fifties Patsy was instrumental in establishing juvenile football in the parish together with Kevin O'Reilly and Jim Drury. This quickly brought an early McHugh Cup win in 1954 and juvenile football in the parish has gone from strength to strength since. Patsy was also involved in fund raising for the club and I can recall him spinning the wheel at the annual bazaar in Ballynagearn School.

Patsy had other strings to his bow as well. He played a part in all the plays performed by Magheracloone Dramatic Society in the fifties. He was also treasurer of the Sports Committee for several years.

The club extends its sympathy to his daughter Dympna, sons Eamon and Padraig, and the extended Marron family.
