Drew Wylie intends to knuckle down and reclaim a starting place in the Monaghan football team.

Nominated for an All Star last year as the Farney County qualified for an All-Ireland semi-final, the no-nonsense defender didn’t make the first XV for Sunday’s first-round Qualifier against Fermanagh, having struggled to find his best form so far in 2019.

“I’ve set myself standards every year and try and reach them,” the Ballybay Pearses clubman told The Irish Daily Star. “I know myself I just haven’t reached them yet but hopefully we can get there and I can get a starting spot the next day … but I’m just happy to be able to give something to the team.

“It’s not something I’m used to but that’s how competitive this panel is. It’s about me changing my mindset so that whenever I come in I can offer something, and being strong about that. We have a good strong panel coming through and it’s good to see.”
