The 2019 Monaghan GAA. County Convention which takes place on Thursday, December 6th, in the Four Seasons Hotel looks like being a relatively quiet affair, although there could be one or two contests for positions on the management committee that would heighten the tempo.

The convention booklet which contains the secretary’s report, a copy of the audited accounts for the year ending October 31st 2018 and reports of the various subcommittees has been circulated to the clubs along with the list of nominations for a number of positions on the management committee but it is interesting to note that for the first time in living memory or even more than that, there are no motions tabled on any topic although it must be said that the areas where convention can make decisions now is very limited.

Convention sees a number of officers stepping down under the five year rule, assistant secretary Ailish McEntee, PRO Noel Duffy who has set new standards for this position and hurling officer Jason McAndrew. There are multiple nominations for the position of Assistant Treasurer, Delegates the Ulster Council, PRO and Coaching Officer but not all contests may materialise on the night.

The audited accounts presented show Monaghan producing a credit balance at the end of the year and the breakdown and analysis of income and expenditure under the various headings is certainly interesting, with some showing an increase over the 2017 figures but others showing a decrease over the same period. It is interesting to note though that the turnover for Monaghan County Board for the year in question exceeded €3 million (Euro).

The secretary’s report is a detailed analysis and comment on activities at all levels over the year, with particular reference all to County teams and county board administration as well as the internal competitions, particularly the Championships. Of the subcommittee reports one that should be of great interest and could generate, and maybe should generate, some debate and questions, is
that of the Fixture Analyst, Cormac Sherry who gives a very detailed overview of the club fixture analysis program.

When all that business is completed, Convention will also see the announcement of the annual awards for 2018, as well as the champion fifteen in each of the three football Championships and the senior hurling championship.

Convention gets underway in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan this evening at 7.00 PM.
