MC ELVANEYS WASTE & RECYCLING INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL

Sean McDermotts 2-14

Tyholland 1-12

A more resilient Sean McDermotts staged a strong finish to come from being three points in arrears with 11 minutes of normal time remaining to winning by 5 in this entertaining contest that built to an exciting finish in St Mary’s Park, Castleblayney, on Saturday evening last.

Tyholland, despite fielding short a number of regulars, had held a slight edge for most of the first half and went in two points ahead at the break, with Sean McDermotts levelling 6 minutes into the second half with Tyholland going on to retake the lead with a goal from a penalty putting them three points up entering the final ten minutes. From there to the finish though, Sean McDermotts, who had been the more dominant around midfield began to make that dominance tell and with Niall Kearns orchestrating and directing operations they picked off vital scores and none more important than a goal by Kearns himself, although somewhat of a fortuitous one with six minutes of normal time remaining to put Sean McDermotts in front. Tyholland equalised but Sean McDermotts then hit 1-3 without reply, to effectively kill the game off and book their place in the intermediate championship final with five points to spare.
