Former Tyrone star Owen Mulligan says he can't see Monaghan defeating his home county for a second time this summer.

The Red Hands lost out to Malachy O'Rourke's side by two points in their Ulster championship opener back in May and the neighbours are set to square off again on Sunday for a berth in next month's All-Ireland final.

Three-time All-Ireland winner Mulligan feels Mickey Harte and his players will have learned plenty from that last meeting in Omagh.

"I don't think Monaghan have capability to beat Tyrone twice in the same calendar year, it's just a massive, massive ask," Mulligan told Paddy Power News.

"Mickey Harte is a shrewd manager. He hates getting beat. He will relish the chance to right the wrongs from Tyrone's Ulster championship encounter with Monaghan, as he'll have learned so much from that game."

He added: "Mickey Harte is now finishing with a better team than he started with, and the last team I saw doing that were the All-Ireland champions. This is a massive luxury for any manager."
