Trim 1-10 St. Colmcilles 3-11

A good crowd showed up in Trim on Friday night in hope of seeing a strong Trim performance ahead of the 1st round of the championship in 2 weeks time and after the first 15 minutes they couldn’t of been happier. 

Ian Birmimgham started Trims scoring with a fine solo effort. Fielding the ball on the sideline, he then cut in through the Cilles defences to kick a fine score from the 45. Next up Trim showed some fast thinking and good play making. Alan Douglas received the ball in the corner and gave a fine pass to Brian Dowling who finished well to the net from a tight angle. Brian then scored a free to give Trim a 3 point lead. Trim were in full control at this time and playing so really nice football. After a some loose play in the Trim square, the referee awarded the Cilles a penalty. A strange decision which left much of the crowd scratching their heads. St Colmcilles scored the penalty which seemed to be a turning point. Alan Douglas scored two fine points from play and Paul Munnelly also got on the score sheet with a good effort from distance. But it was the Cilles who finished the half with couple of goals and points to take control of the game. 

Half time: Trim 1-5 St. Colmcilles 3-6. 

The second half was a much tighter affair. Trim Brought on Aaron Lynch who scored 5 points in total, 2 from play. St Colmcilles matched Trim’s scoring with 5 of their own points. 

A disappointing night for the Trim team, management and supporters. Brendan Murphy might have more questions than answers after the game, however, with a strong panel to work from, and a tough game against a Senior team under their belt. We should see a finely tuned Trim team, championship ready in two weeks.
