Awards: Intermediate Club Hurler of the Year

December 13, 2018

Celebration time for Na Fianna's Barry Slevin

Na Fianna made up for their disappointing final replay loss to O'Mahonys last year to make their way back up to the senior ranks. The Enfield/Baconstown outfit enjoyed a great run in Leinster reaching the provincial final.

Early in the year, the smart money was on the winners or Clann Na nGael for outright honours in the IHC. However, Gaeil Colmcille proved the surprise packets and reached the county final after some very good performances.

There were some outstanding performances throughout the campaign, John Farrell and Gary Cole for Clann Na nGael, Fionn Ferguson and Barry Smith (Gaeil Colmcille) as well as Wolfe Tones' Eanna Harrington and Stephen Sheppard while the eventual winners had sterling performances from Evan Mullally, Daniel Gleeson, Diarmuid Baily, Peter Slevin and Seanie Martin throughout the campaign.

Nonetheless, there was one standout player who lit up the championship. Our Intermediate Club Hurler of the Year award goes to Barry Slevin. The Na Fianna star was deployed in numerous positions and excelled in all of them. It was a rare occurrence that he did not finish top scorer in all their games. His skill levels and ball striking abilities were a joy to watch.
