Kilmainhamwood Report

Kilmainhamwood 0-8 Moynalty 1-14

Kilmainhamwood put in a hard shift against Moynalty in the second round of the championship in Nobber, but were unable to see the game through after going toe to toe for the first 45 minutes.

The Wood started off brightly and set the intensity with a brilliant point from Paddy Carolan and a good free from Stephen Kiernan. Moynalty however leveled the scoring after ten minutes with two good points of their own. The Wood kept the pressure up Carolan and Kiernan were again the scorers. The Wood had two injuries to Conor Kiernan and Peter Flood which saw the introduction to Alan Carolan and Cathal Bennett mid way through the first half. The game ebbed and flowed before the break and a Stephen Kiernan point looked like it would put the Wood a point up at the half but a late Moynalty score saw the sides level at 5-5 at half time.

The second half started similar to the first with Moynalty getting the first score before an incredible Kiernan free leveled things up. Moynalty scores another before a weaving run from Andy Farrelly saw him run through the defense for a score. Paddy Carolan then scored another point to see the Wood go one in front but unfortunately this was as good as it got for the men in white and blue.

Moynalty finished the last fifteen minutes with 1-7 without reply. The Wood seemed to run out of steam and were unable to keep the intensity up which had saw them play some very good football at times.

Best for the Wood was Andy Farrelly, Paddy Carolan and Stephen Kiernan.
