Meath vs Kildare 5th February

Well, this game is finally coming around. Not the greatest of preparation with today's game against Louth. Very difficult to say what team to pick but here is a shot anyway.

1. Burlingham / Hannigan
2. D. Tobin
3. D. Keoghan
4. M. Burke
5. S. McEntee
6. Paraic Harnan
7. A. Douglas
8. A. Flanagan
9. C. O'Brien
10. G. Reilly
11. B. O'Brien
12. C.O'Sullivan
13. E. Wallace
14. M.Newman / B. Sheridan (one of them needed for frees)
15. D. Lenihan

Not sure if everyone is fully fit and that midfield pairing is a bit of a shot in the dark but a win is needed big time in this game.

I like your team! I would play Menton in midfield though

Few things I'd change , forde 7, Menton instead of O'Brien and kennely in halforwards instead of O'Brien, ID go with Newman inside and not so sure about Wallace yet.

Lads how important Harry Rooney has being to us for the last two years has being evident today , Andy probably needs to get on the phone to him this evening and try to coax him back from his travels. Midfield appears to be troublesome for us , maybe we could drop Mento back to no.6 where he would be better utalised. Any views?

Burlingham
Keogan McGill Burke
Harnan Menton Forde
Power O'Brien
COS Biggy Kennelly
McMahon Newman Lenihan

Not sure if Power at midfield would work but Menton was poor in midfield today. I still think Newman has a lot to prove but included because of his frees. Not sure if Harnan is going to play if he didn't play today or yesterday. Downey could be an effective substitute. I still think we will beat Kildare and have a good league campaign but maybe not get promoted.

Why would he bother ! Plenty of years for him to play! Leave him be

Harnan as 6 is needed sooner or later and I would like to see him flanked by James McEntee and Forde.

I didn't pick Forde as I was assuming he would be suspended for the Kildare game. However as everyone else is picking him perhaps I am missing something.

I picked Harnan in the hope that the next two weeks would bring him on a bit. regarding McMahon, it was a toss up between him and Wallace and Lenihan and I reckon the other two are better but he certainly would be an option off the bench as would downey.

As for Menton and Power, both very close to a starting team but today didnt do them any favours in my opinion anyway.

Actually when i read that team, I think yes that's our best available 15 , and a decent enough bench.

Ziggy,
Were you at the game today?

McGill & Menton were very poor. In fact McGill was roasted in several games last year and exposed again today. Yet you continue to pick him at full back. I will admit that there is a sliver of a case for menton as he uses his physical presence well even when he is starved of the ball (like today) and hopefully he will come good at midfield. Personally I wouldn't be putting my house on it after watching him in the county final last year.

Is Forde available for this game? He gt a straight red today.

If he is unavailable why are ye guys picking him on a team for the Kildare game?

I think opening team versus Kildare will be 1 Hannigan 2 Burke 3 Keoghan 4 Tobin if fit . 5 Downey 6 Menton 7 Forde/McEntee 8 Flanagan 9 O Brien (given a go) 10 O Sullivan 11 Reilly 12 o Coileain 13 Newman 14 Sheridan 15 Wallace

I do think keeping Keoghan at full back is important but, I agree, not many alternatives & we are all clutching at straws a bit. Comes down to our own preferences I suppose. Lets hope Harnan & Tobin get match fit in the meantime.

Why Sheridan? Just wanted wondering as he hasn't really been tried. I'd prefer Kennelly if I been honest.

I just think Kennelly more of an outfield player and could well be a midfielder but has a lot to learn yet but certainly a big prospect.B Sheridan a more experienced in my opinion to start with younger lads coming on. Sheridan might bring some steadiness to full forward line and could feed Newman.Lenihan and Queeney could be involved also
