Meath under 21s

No buzz about your Under-21s? Any good prospects? Dublin are there for the taking, a very unproven selection missing many of their best players.

There are high hopes for Daire Rowe among a lot of Meath fans - lines out at 15 tomorrow night.

I fancy Meath to run this Dublin team close tonight. Shame home advantage was given up as it could be the difference between the two. Best of luck to them thought it would be great to have a bit of optimism back in the county. Nothing to lose.

That's a pacey attack we have named. I would prefer to see Robert Bourke or David Toner with Ronan Jones at midfield. The defensive spine is solid with Thomas McGovern at 6 and Daniel O'Neill at 3. Dublin missing three of their best players in Eoin Murchan and Ballyboden's Shane Clayton and Colm Basquel. I tip us to win by 5.

Agree with Toney,Bourke or Toner at midfield would have been better options..

I think we will give them a game, but ultimately lose...

After last Sunday and our record at u-21 over the past few years I would settle for a one point win and that would be real progress. Also it would show that we can HOLD on which is a trait that has all but vanished from Meath football in recent years. Message to the team: Never loose faith and plug away to the very end.

Was at this and came away disappointed as this was very winnable. Played too deep in the first half with the wind, only had 2-3 players up front, whereas Dublin always had 2 extra men patrolling around the half back line. Dubs were able to take short kick outs easily for the first 20mins or so as Meath didn't push up. Once we did, got the score back to 6 each. Then came the sucker blow. IMO opinion, should have been a free out as the Dublin corner forward jumped too early and used his left arm to hold our defender down. Our goalie was too slow to come his line and 2 other Dublin attackers came running in unmarked.
We had plenty of possession in the 2nd half and a combination of poor hand passing and a failure to take on a shot cost us badly.
All sendings off were deserved, double yellows.
Similar to seniors there didn't seem to be a kick out strategy apart from straight down the middle. Also our goalie was very slow at getting kick outs in place in comparison to the Dublin goalie. Dubs kept a ball at the post (not supposed to happen) and before the ball from a Meath shot had hit the ground behind the goal, he was out with the ball ready for a kick out. Took most of their kick outs short even when they were a man down.
Everyone gave their all, this was an all action hard hitting game. Impressed with McEntee and Jones in particular. With a bit of luck and better option taking up front, we could have won this. Not to be, so congrats to the Dubs and best of luck to them for the rest of year.

Thanks for post on U21 game last night. I was away with work so could not attend but was following on HS match tracker. Was there many Meath supporters in Parnell last night? Judging by the lack of posts on the topic can we assume a very small Meath crowd in attendance or have supporters in general just stopped caring? Worrying times ahead for Meath Gaa..

Greenwood: Not a big crowd in total, stand was reasonably full, still plenty of space in it. Handful on the terracing on the opposite side and behind the goals, by a handful, I mean about 20 in total. I would say probably about 150 from Meath, certainly no more than that.

It was poor performance by both sides with poor hand passing and poor free taking- there was little between the sides. The goal was of a very soft fluke variety. Our big fullback jostled with the full forward when he should have been keeping his eye on the ball (I was 20m from the incident behind the goals) O'Coilean was best forward until he got injured before half time. The corner backs did well and the big guy from Rathkenny did well when he came on (I think his name was O'Callaghan). I though that McEntee was average and much too slow in passing the ball when there were better placed player available. I would say that if the match was in Navan that we may have won. Though we should have got a very obvious penalty at a crucial time in the second half due to a foot block. Rowe also did well enough but has to develop his passing game.

O'Neill,Jones,Conlon are all very good players who could play for the seniors later on in the year. The team will be better prepared this year,it will take a good side to beat them.It would be great to win an U21 title..

Jones unfortunately probably out for all of under 21's with a shoulder injury. Massive blow

The u21's had a decent side last year and I have no doubt that they would have beaten the Dubs if the match had to have been in Navan. A few dubious Ref decisions cost them the game along with one or two guys who appeared to be playing for themselves rather than for the team. The Dubs were narrowly beaten by the winners Mayo.
