Home Football Hurling Counties

The mighty men of '49

Over half a century on from Meath's first All-Ireland senior crown and the Royal County is one of the strongest footballing powers around. In 1949, however, hope rather than anticipation was the feeling that emanated from the plains of Meath. To mark the 50th anniversary of this historic occasion, Hogan Stand Magazine published a special commemorative edition where we profiled the people who brought the Royal County to the summit of the footballing world, talked to the surviving members of the panel and much more besides.
