Inter county spending

(Oldest Posts First)

Irish independent has an article today highlighting the cost the county boards incurred over the course of 2016 to run the county teams (and development squads) at all grades. Meath come in, in 23rd place in the league table with a spend of €500k. 6 teams exceeded €1m including 3 Connacht teams. Roscommon spent over €1m which seems out of proportion with their success on the pitch! Surprisingly, Dublin don't top the list - Mayo have that honour! Dublin had the most successful football team at Senior level and also had a hurling team which makes Mayo's top spot all the more surprising to me.
Meath of course had great success with the Senior and Under 21 hurling teams last year, while the footballers lost in the Leinster semi and then in round 2 of the qualifiers! So it looks like they got good value for their spend in comparison to others!!
Not sure what to read into all of this but it is inetresting all the same!!

Have a feeling that figure will go up a good bit this year, but it is needed after years of under funding. I find it hard to believe Mayo spend more than Dublin do.

its funny you mention the hurlers in the budget

i would say the split was
footballers 480 000
hurlers 20 000 - mayby less

the 1 week holiday the footballers got last year cost at least double the hurlers entire years kitty

the mayo stat is just out of this world - crazy stuff

I think it is astounding that Roscommon spend more than twice what Tyrone spend!

These figures as with any can be skewed, they are likely official Co board spend. On the Dublin thing remember they don't have the overnight or travel expenses that a lot of counties incur. A lot of the Dubs are also being looked after directly with personal sponsorship

I am told 250k for senior footballers. I reckon at least 100k for under u14 to 21 both grades so I would estimate 150k for senior hurlers would be the break down
