I see a result from the first semi final last night of Kildalkey 9-13 Killyon/Longwood 3-11, can anyone confirm is this a typo or real result?
If so , thats an unbelivable scoreline considering Killyon/longwood beat kiltale. Kildalkey by my records havent won the minor championship since the 1940s, should have won in 2001 with the bulk of the team that won 3 in a row senior but were beaten by Navan Omahoneys by 6-7 to 1-13. that was Omahoneys 5th minor championship in a row and it took kildalkey about 10 years to get back to a minor final which we didnt win.
I think im right in saying we havent won a minor since the 1940s but if anyone can tell me about the late 1970s or early 80s id like to know, i think underage kildalkey were strong then but dont know if they won the minor championship. i know they won the minor with boardsmill in 1996 beating Athboy 0-11 to 1-3 but kildalkey only had 5 of the starting 15 on that team so it cant really be counted. i think somee kildalkey players won a minor with Athboy in the early 1990s as well but to win this minor on our own would rank up there with a senior title.
I know kildalkey won minor b titles but they just havent near the same value as a minor A proper. if anyone can tell me about kildalkeys minor record it would be great. i wonder is there any hope of having the minor final played before the senior final this year as was the case in the 1990s?
