(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Meath Hurling U21 out on Saturday - in Trim at 3pm v Kerry Bord Gais Energy GAA Hurling All-Ireland U21B Championship - Semi-Final - looking at the lads the last day they have a good panel. This wont be easy but if they play the way they did against Wicklow they will give Kerry a run for there money.

Well done to the lads. Surprisingly comfortable 9 point win. All Ireland final against Mayo in Thurles in three weeks' time.

Well done lads. Never panicked despite the referee doing everything he could to keep Mayo in it.

So it wasn't just me.Now I only watched it on tv,but in the second half the ref made some awful decisions against Meath.

Well done to the panel on a good victory.

I agree.

Delighted to see hurling doing well but Hell will freeze over before Meath will win the Liam McCarthy. There are probably 5 divisions in quality reality in hurling and Meath are probably in the 3rd of those divisions.

Meath are proven previous winners in football and it is reasonable to expect, with a good management of teams and underage, that we could at least compete at the top table again. In hurling we will hopefully continue to improve but best we could reasonably hope for is to be competitive with 2nd tier teams which would be a fantastic achievement. All you have to do is look at how difficult Dublin have found it to compete with the top teams and that is with all their resources, player talent pool and team supports.

No way a put down to the hurling community, but put this way,Meath(football) can still reach a Leinster Final, you wouldn't say the same for the hurlers unfortunetly.

Christy Ring and U21B - fantastic campaign by the meath teams. Great to see hurling alive and well in the royal county. I was actually in navan sunday evening visiting a friend and ended up going for few pints - dissapointed not to see a homecoming for the U21's, was there one in another part of the county or one on saturday night?

Yes with a lucky draw and a few decades of the rosary there is every chance Meath football would make it to the Leinster final where they would make up the numbers and provide nothing more than a workout for the eventual winners.
1999 the last time Meath football lifted Sam, many people here are still dining out on that one, there's nothing in place to suggest we might see another one in the next five years. That's a whole generation of Meath kids coming of voting age in the next couple of years who have no living memory of a Meath AI victory other than what they see on Reeling in the years.
Meath football have a great future behind them, Meath Hurling definitely have a great future ahead of them and long may it continue.

Wedgie, are you on a stirring exercise here? Football is on a downer in the county in recent years. I go to both hurling & football games and support both. However in my opinion when Meath football is at it's lowest ebb they still have a better chance of winning Leinster than the hurlers even if the hurlers are at their historical peak. Because the truth is the Meath hurlers have zero chance of winning Leinster so even a remote chance of the footballers winning is still a better chance,.
That said the hurlers have been great this year but lets not get carried away as to where they are in the scheme of things.

Wedgie we have people (not many ) getting a letter from the president on reaching 100 years old who cant remember the hurlers winning anything at senior A level. So your point is redundant.

Disappointed Meath did not enter the U21 Leinster hurling championship as top dogs in the B competitions in 2016 it would have been the next step.
Kildare Carlow and Westmeath did while Meath join Louth Longford and Wicklow looking on.
