Who'll go down this year?

(Oldest Posts First)

With the new format in the SFC anyone care to guess who will be relegated from the SFC and IFC next year? There could be some big surprises.

Need to see draw before anyone can make those predictions

You may be right. It could very easily happen that an "established" senior club could drop this year. Obviously an awful lot depends on the draw. if you get 6 strong teams in 1 group, then anything could happen. An even spread, and the weaker clubs may all go down.
At first glance, St Pats, Duleek and Ballinlough would have to be the pick to go. I think Rathkenny have enough strong players to survive.
If I had to pick a shock team to go, it could be Seneschalstown. Their best players are getting on a bit now, and I'm not sure they have the talent coming through. Giving my tipping prowess, that means that they will probably win it out!

in fairness it is usually the team/teams that deserves to go down that does go down.

Shock team for me is dunshaughlin
This an aging team and have nobody coming through of a high level proff have recently performed poorly in championship and would have been relegated a few years ago only for there was no relegation that year and it's basically the same team.

I think your a bit off the mark with Dunshaughlin there! They've had brilliant Division 1 campaigns in recent years and also got to a Championship Quarter-Final last year. To say they have no youth coming through and are an aging team is also incorrect...off the top of my head I can think of David Dunne, Ben Duggan and Shane Gallogly who are all key players and are still under 21! The only two veterans in the team I can think of are King and Dowd, there's definitely several teams in the grade with older players in their teams.

In reality you have to wait for the draw to make a prediction of who will go down but in my opinion the 3 worst senior teams are St. Pat's, Ballinlough and Duleek. A lot depends on whether these are drawn in the same group or not but other contenders are definitely Blackhall Gaels, Rathkenny, Moynalvey and Seneschalstown.
In the IFC I'd pick Cortown and Longwood to definitely go down and then a battle between Castletown, Oldcastle, Drumbaragh, St. Ultan's, Ballivor, & Ashbourne B's to battle it out for the last 3 spots. Kilmainham, Dunderry, Syddan and St. Michael's would need to watch themselves as well but I'd imagine they should be alright.
In the JFC anything could happen, far too many possibilities.

I'm not talking about league
They can compete in league because they have nobody on county panal other teams have to play league without their best players
In championship they are poor
And the young players you have mentioned are not at a senior level also check your info about ageing player there are a lot more The core of the team has not changed for a long time

Duleek without a shadow of doubt. They should not be down there but they are so hopefully when they get relegated there will be a big shake up. Badly needed

Duleek always capable of a big performance
Don't think it is as straightforward as some posters. I see in louth St Pats who were champions last year and gave Ballyboden a good game in the leinster are in relegation final this year. Shows the difference a year can make
