Just wondering if the CB should insist on an upper age limit for referees . Over the last few weeks I have seen far too many unfit referees who are unable to keep within a reasonable distance of play and are trying to make jusjement calls from a distance . Is there a fitness level requirement. . If they had enough referees they may be able to do so but from what I can see there are a number of clubs who don't have referees taking games at adult or juvenile level. And that would probably be regarded as ageist to put an upper age limit on referees. Some very poor performing referees particularly in lower grades of club football in Meath who consistently get games regardless of performance or fitness. Yes I totally agree, I know 2 of them. Yet we have a man doing the Senior championship who didn't even do the fitness test. A number of referees have walked away because of the antics of the county board this year and others say it will be their last year. It's a total farce. To see a referees coming in from Louth, Dublin Kildare and Offaly to this county and our referees not getting games is a disgrace. To see the county chairman refereeing is also totally wrong,

Hardly ageist, if someone is to old to do a job or not able to meet minimum fitness requirements they shouldn't be let. Have a mandatory retirement age on it of say 55 or 60 even. As previous posters said if there are young refs doing the courses amd mpt been given games while aul lads who arent able to keep up with the games still are then we will never have enough refs as ppl will stop doing the courses or just withdraw their names

Refs who were obviously past their best years ago are still dragged out. If it is shortage of talented refs the best solution would be to recruit from neighbouring Dublin where in fairness they have an abundance of younger and better referees. Regardless of age the fitness is the most important thing. Refereeing the game from the two 45s is all to common and the fitness of a referee should determine the standard they referee at!!.. these lads are paid aswell and far to often big decisions are made that decide clubs seasons from to far away.
