Nightmare

(Oldest Posts First)

After yesterdays results and the disappointment it brought, I went to bed last night with the result and all its ramifications swirling around in my head. Added to that the fact that the qualifier draw was coming up in the morning and it all got too much for me and i ended up having the most awful nightmares.

Whilst the details are still sketchy i'll try and remember it as best I can but it went something like this.

I dreamt the qualifier pitted us against London away. The forum went crazy with posters warning of dire consequences for us however the general concensus was that it was a winnable game.

The Meath county board announced that the team would be heading over for a team building and bonding session a week before the game.

RD announced he would also be going the week before as he had never missed a Meath training session in his life.

Furlong posted a long message analysing London's revival in GAA in the mid 50's, and he looked in depth at how Brexit might affect London's future participation in the All Ireland, quoting articles 31.5 through to 33.7 in some detail.

The game itself was a pulsating affair with Meath kicking the last 3 points to win by 2.

The forum was split on the merits of the win but there was general agreement that the fightback by Meath was similar to the great teams of old and the good times were surely just around the corner.

4 of the Meath Panel seek asylum in London after the game saying they would rather suffer the fate of Brexit than stay and work under Andy any more.

Andy tells Sky Sports that the trip was a success and now the Meath Panel consists of players who really really want to play for Meath and that London was welcome to the 4 begrudgers.

Round 2 saw us drawn against Leitrim away in two weeks.

The Meath Co Board buoyed by the success of the week long trip to London, organise a week training camp in Carrick On Shannon before the game.

RD flies in from Stanstead and heads straight to Carrick, telling the forum he has never been so excited about a Meath campaign and he sets up camp in the Bush hotel where he starts up a pop up shop selling Graham Reilly merchandise.

Furlong posts a message where he compares the Leitrim championship campaign of 1975 to this years and how the consequences of that gives Meath supporters hope that they can win.

Meath kick a last minute goal and win by 1.

The Meath forum again is split on the merits of the win but generally they agree with RD when he comes on and explains that now the All Ireland is ours to lose.

A further 5 players refuse to come home and head straight to Drumshambo.

Andy tells RTE that Leitrim hardly got a kick of the ball and in reality Meath were a 17 point better team on the day.

Mayo were next up in Castlebar the following week.

The Meath Co Board tell the world they have no money left so the team will have to get a Bus Eireann express that will leave Navan at 4pm and that with all the new roads that 3 hours will be leave plenty of time to get there for the 7pm throw in.

On the Friday before the game, the Meath forum gets nationwide attention as a general internet crash that leaves the economy and businesses in general in tatters is blamed purely on a 45 page post by Furlong detailing the impact Junior football in west Mayo has had on the senior team (1959 through to 1963 being given special mention).

With the panel now decimated with defections the forum is innundated with posters detailing the team lineup they expect to see.

RD picks his team and his Meath team has Graham from 1 to 14 and AN OTHER in at 15 (as Graham has to undergo a late fitness test for this position).

Andy tells LMFM that he is happy with the 16 players left on the panel and they really really really want to play for Meath.

Mayo start the game very nervous as they are intimidated by the level of attention that the Meath forum has brought to the game.

At half time RD posts live from the game and expresses himself happy with the first half performance and exhorts the players to really get going in the second half. Mayo lead by 19 points.

With 10 mins left RD posts that despite things looking a bit grim (Mayo winning by 26 points), he expects the teams ability to extract themselves from difficult situations will see them through in a tight finish. Mayo win by 34 points.

A clearly annoyed Andy tells anyone who will listen that Meath missed at least 12 goal chances and in a 34 point game that would put a different complexion on it. He further explains how the 3 defections of Meath players at half time and one later on in the second half had no effect other than to galvanise the remaining 12 players on the panel and that these 12 players would form the basis of Meaths push for promotion to Division 1 next year. He did not see the need to bring any further players in as he did not think that they could match the 12 lads desire to play for Meath.

RD posted after the game that it was a shock to lose the game and with 3 mins left he was full sure we were going to win.

He let the shackles off then in a no hold barred post when he ridiculed other posters for not believing that this Meath team could have enjoyed such a great season and called on the county board to make Andy's position permanent for the next 15 years as he was clearly the type of man manager to lead the team to all ireland success.

So that was my night last night.

I think the game and result has now officially fried my brain.

Yeh..............IF the county board did the obvious by taking remedial action several months ago.things may have been saved. The dogs in the street could see that Andy was a novice, and as such lacked experience/talent in vital areas of coaching. I salute Andy for his courage in taking the job and giving it a go when it seemed no one else was willing. The County Board owed it to him to give him the required help. I believe his management style is something that needs development. There will never be a manager made to measure for the modern day job anyway. Look at the help at Gavins disposal for example. I say county board INVEST in development of managers starting with Andy.
Always very easy to blame the manager of course. We have to accept that talent pool is low for years now ,and any manager can not work miracles. He can only get the best out of what he has. When you see so any players leaving the panel i ask questions. Of course there can be many acceptable reasons.
Some years ago the county board talked about 3 wise men and their objectives.Looked like a great idea .What happened to it ? All spoof ??? Colm O Rourke does not owe Meath football anything..we know that What happened to the ideas he put forward some time back?? To this poster the county board need to sit up and take stock The book stops with the county board NOT Andy Mc Entee !!

Ah it was just designed to be a bit of light relief given our current circumstances and no harm was meant to any posters or management who were mentioned.

I often take the pee out of people, I enjoy good well thought out humor, and if you can't get pee taken out of yourself. You on a looser. I could not and would not take offense to any of that. It was very funny.
