Meath Underage Development

(Oldest Posts First)

I have a question.. In light of the reprehensible "worst team ever" post on this forum this week. and the general poor performance of the seniors in recent years.
Do people feel enough is being done about it in Meath Underage Football currently to rectify it down the line?

Have we learned our lesson, or are we just winging it, like seemed to happened when i was back playing underage .
In terms of playing numbers, surely Meath is up there with most top counties.?
Are we doing enough to close the gap? Or just leaving things to chance

Well now , it depends on who you talk to in Meath GAA ....
Some will say theres a lot of positives been done in Meath GAA underage at present . However others that really know , would tell you that cronyism is rife . With as an earlier poster put it , good Coaches and Managers are been shafted at Dev level by those with the powers to do it . Indeed these same people bypass all the byelaws in the county to get who they want into the management jobs . Forget the clubs , what would they know ?. As we all know Blood is thicker than water , a example in point is the appointment of the U20 team manager . Brian Farrell .... No clubs nominated him , which is against the bylaws of the county yet he walks onto the Inter county Managerial Roundabout at U20 Level ... What's that but cronyism , with a touch of nepotism to boot.
the same old fingers are pulling the strings now that were pulling them 10-15 years ago . Just their now doing it from the comfort of their armchair

Ah chaistlean_true_meath_ my old friend you rise again I taught you had got yourself elected to a role or something you have gone so quiet lately. Anyway as Queen Elizabeth 1 or 11 said (not quiet sure which) ones opinion of ones abilities should not cloud ones opinion of other people's abilities despite others opinions of ones abilities ... lots of ones there so maybe it QE2 that said it.

In other words as the Irish proverb states ... he who is shown the road is sometimes because he ran out of road.

Anyway the bye law states that while clubs may nominate the fo Coiste may look elsewhere if they choose. Barry Callaghan had got the gig but had opted out for some reason I think work commitments and Farrell as one of his management team over the minors was promoted in his stead. I think the rest of the management team has stayed the same. To say Dudley had something to do with it is ridiculous.

The QUALITY of coaching at all levels within the county has to be reviewed at least. AGAIN i understand that a group of 3 [the 3 wise men] had that as akey area on their agenda. I recall ample media coverage at the time on this issue. Was it all political BULL...T. or what.. WHY no info. available on what looked like a great idea. If not WHO is overseeing coaching standards now?
