Meath Hurlers V Westmeath

You can be disappointed about yesterday, but looking at it again it was the Laois game that really snookered us. We really did not do ourselves justice in that game. We had very few real goal chances yesterday but we missed 4 or 5 of them against Laois. Had we even kept that game within 10 points and yesterday's games went the same, we'd have stayed up on points difference.

I think Division 2B games this season really hurt us. It must be very difficult to go from playing Mayo/Roscommon/Derry to playing teams that have had games against Wexford/Galway/Limerick. We'll be playing against better opposition in the league next season (including Kerry and Westmeath) and I'd expect to be near enough to promotion come April. After that, we'd have to be aiming to win the Christy Ring again.

Replying To sportingplay:  "Very disappointed for Meath yesterday. To be relegated on score difference is cruel, particularly after the good start to the round robin. Should be very competitive next year in 2A and would hope to see Toher return. But tell me this, will it be back to the transfer market or stick with home grown talent??? That tactic didn't work out for Quaid and Kildare this year. Interested to hear the Meath perspective."
We are all disappointed, and we will await the football team that will take to the field in the championship to see if James Toher is included, enough said about that. For all we know his ash may have been turned to cash by you know whom!!!!!!!!
As for the transfer market I don't think so. Long term it really does not help a county team, to my mind while we had a few in the only one that stayed with the team long term was Enda Fitzgerald and he eventually transferred to a club in Meath and is still hurling there.
If we could get some of our transfers out back it would also help, here I am referring to Jack Fagan's transfer to De la Salle in Waterford. He could still play with De la Salle and still play with Meath.
